Okay...if you don't know what WTF is, I won't tell you, but it's the response I thought when I learned today that I have lost almost one lb of lean muscle mass. I've lost 29 lbs of fat but not gained any muscle? How is this possible? How have I LOST muscle with the cycling and yoga and body pump and swim? UGH... I went to get some body fat analysis to help keep me motivated and while i have lost almost 5% of body fat since I started I still don't get how I have not gained muscle!
The trainer said that I might be able to do the things I couldn't before (like plank positions and pushups) because I weigh less, not because of gained muscle. *SIGH* I mean it's all good to have lost 30 lbs, but I really really thought I had gained muscle. Oh well. Off to celebrate one of my bestest friends birthdays!!!
Ugh. That stinks. I don't know why that would work out like that. Just look at the good part of that...you've lost 29 lbs of fat....whoohoo :)
ReplyDeletewell, you are also losing fat, so you may be using less muscle to tote you around.
ReplyDeleteI had plenty of lean muscle...now think about this. You were 260 some odd pounds.
Wear that as a ruck sack and you will gain some muscle..lighten the load, the body needs less muscle.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.
If you are then you could always start doing some weight lifting.
You are doing great. Don't focus on the negative...beeee positive.
You have lost a three year old.
Maybe you aren't eating enough? My nutritionist would always scold me for not eating enough, especially protein. She said I might not lose weight as fast, but I would gain/keep muscle I was putting on.
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me a couple of times with my body fat analysis at the gym. Don't let it get you down. Eventually, if you keep doing what you're doing, you HAVE to gain lean muscle mass. Chris makes a good point about having less body weight to tote around. You're doing great. Be patient with it. (Funny me talking about patience as I am again re-injured from not being patient with my f-ing knee!)
ReplyDeleteI don't really know how all that would work out, seems strange to me. Maybe add in a little bit of strength training? You could do a few upper body and a few lower body every other day or something, that should help you gain a little lean muscle. Also they say protien after your workout is suppose to help, thats why they have all those protien shakes and stuff. But hey your still down 30 pounds and that's an awesome achievement. ((huggles))
